KPMG has been named the “Best Global Adviser for Taxation Services” by Euromoney at its 2014 Real Estate Awards.

The firm, which provides audit, tax and advisory services in Qatar, was also named the “Best Adviser for Taxation Services” in Asia in the continental breakdown.

Euromoney magazine surveys its readers and corporate and financial decision-makers in more than 160 countries to identify the best advisers, developers and banks in the real estate market on a global, regional and individual country basis.

Craig Richardson, KPMG’s head of tax for Qatar, said: “Tax is a growing business for KPMG in Qatar. The common assumption is that tax is simple in this region; however, this is often not the case. Companies require tax planning advice and guidance when setting up in Qatar, as well as assistance when dealing with the tax authorities.

Seven new radiation monitoring stations to be set up

Seven new radiation monitoring stations will be set up in the country, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported, quoting a senior official.

Dr Aisha al-Baker, director of the Radiation and Chemicals Protection Department in the Ministry of Environment, said establishment of the seven new stations would take the number of such facilities from 16 to 23 in Qatar, the report states.

She said the new stations would be set up in different areas in order to intensify the monitoring process. She also referred to the existence of monitoring gates at different entry points in the country to detect radioactive materials, according to the report.

 

Media strategy to highlight Qatar’s achievements

Preparations are under way to develop a media strategy for corporations and the Qatari community with the objective of highlighting the country’s achievements and development in different fields, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported.

The new media strategy will focus on the projects achieved and support the realisation of Qatar National Vision 2030, the daily adds.

Two new satellite channels will also be launched, the daily has learnt. While one of them will come up next year, the other – to be established by a leading organisation – will start within one or two years. The new channels will focus on local affairs and be supervised by young Qataris, according to the report.

‘Augmentin’ safe to use: SCH

The Pharmacy and Drug Control Department (PDCD) of the Supreme Council of Health has affirmed that the medicine ‘Augmentin’ in all its pharmaceutical forms and concentration, is safe to use.

In a statement, the PDCD explained yesterday that it has not proven that the drug has any defect in its manufacturing. Rumours circulating on the social media about the source of the drug are completely unfounded, it added.
