Call to change rules for granting sick leave

A section of citizens has said that some employees of different companies, labourers, students and teachers are known to seek medical certificates from doctors in hospitals, health centres and private clinics to get sick leave and skip work or study, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

Such behaviour amounts to lacking a sense of responsibility, it has been observed.

A doctor at the Al Muntazah Health Centre said it was not easy to get a medical certificate for a sick leave. One would have to be truly ill and the ailment needs to be easily diagnosed by doctors for this, the report states.

However, a citizen claimed that there were many doctors who would easily issue medical certificates even if the case in question is not serious. There is a need to change the rules for granting sick leave, the citizen added.
