The huge crowds that came to watch the cultural show organised by the Ministry of Interior during the three days of Eid al-Adha at West End Park mixed community development in the Industrial Area are a clear indication of the venue gaining considerable acceptance among the country’s residents, in particular Asian expatriates.

The MoI’s decision in allotting its cultural and community programmes to the West End Park area is appreciable as it helped local residents and others to watch and experience shows that serve as source of cultural nourishment.

“It was with the opening of the cinema theatre at West End Park that the place started drawing crowds even from the city limits to its facilities,” said a city resident who has watched the growth of the place as a popular venue of expatriate shows over the last one year.

Echoing similar sentiments, one of the MoI co-ordinators of the shows held as part of the Eid celebrations said more than 14,000 spectators thronged West End Park to watch the cultural shows that it hosted on the first day of Eid.

“The response to the show was overwhelming and was the best ever at the venue in recent times,” he said, adding that he hoped the ministry would consider more of such programmes in coming days at the complex.

He said it was the first time that two massive community shows were organised by the local authorities at two different venues, the other being at Al Khor Sports Club. In the northern part too, the response was very encouraging this time, he said.

Similar crowds were also seen at the two movie halls in the complex. The owners of the complex are considering getting the other two halls also opened as soon as possible.

When contacted, an official of the complex said when its residential facilities are completely ready in a few months they would receive several hundreds of visitors more.

The cricket match held at the complex yesterday too drew massive crowds. At the National Sport Day in February too, West End Park was one of the main venues of the competitions hosted by the MoI.

With the complex becoming a venue of many MoI activities, requests have also come in from sections of the residents for giving more public transport access to the place from different parts of Doha, at least in the afternoons of those days when such events are hosted.
