The Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme (COP) has announced its sponsorship worth QR500,000 for Maqad Al Duha – a development programme that provides support for female retirees and senior citizens in the northern parts of Qatar.

Organised by the local Quodorat Training and Development Centre, the programme will encourage the full participation of these women in various community projects and meaningful activities, which will help ensure progress towards a developed and prosperous local community, according to a statement.

Between 2014 and 2016, the intention is that the Maqad Al Duha programme will transfer the knowledge and experiences of elderly and retired women to a younger generation of Qataris, and activate their roles in the community as valuable contributing members.

The programme will also enrich their relationships with their immediate family, particularly grandchildren and younger family members, ensuring that local traditions and customs and a wealth of knowledge and history are transferred to the next generation, and hence preserved in the long term, the statement adds.

Further, specialised training workshops will be conducted to raise awareness of health and safety and develop their personal skills, which will help them face the challenges of this special period of their life. Site visits to schools, patients in hospitals and women’s cultural centres will also be organised.

“We are very pleased to co-operate with Quodorat Training and Development Centre once again,” said Moza al-Mohannadi, Community Liaison Lead at the Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme. “The wide range of expertise and skill among our senior citizens, which can be used as a resource for the benefit of society as a whole, should also be acknowledged – and this is what we are doing through the Maqad Al Duha programme.”

“The compatibility in the objectives of Quodorat Centre and the Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme to serve the community for a better tomorrow in Al Khor city and the northern region contributes significantly to the strengthening of mutual co-operation between the two institutions,” said Bana al-Harami, director of
Qudorat Centre.

The Community Outreach Programme aims to build communication bridges based on trust and co-operation between the industrial companies located in the northern region of Qatar and the local community. It also serves to benefit the local community as a whole by working in partnership with public institutions in supporting several cultural, educational, health, environmental, security and safety initiatives.
