Vodafone Qatar is inviting all parents to join the second edition of its AmanTECH Twitter Chat Series today from 4 to 5pm, Doha-Qatar time.

Accessed through individual Twitter handles and the Vodafone Qatar Twitter account (@VodafoneQatar) with hashtag #AskAmanTECH, parents and other interested stakeholders can take part of the dialogue, which will be led by digital parenting expert Janice Richardson and Vodafone Qatar in both English and Arabic.

Parents will have the opportunity to ask Richardson any question about maintaining their children’s safety and privacy in today’s expanding digital world, as well as questions on digital parenting.

Richardson has worked as a teacher, university lecturer, researcher, and author in Australia, France, Luxembourg, and Belgium mainly in the fields of literacy, education, and the protection of children’s rights on the Internet.

Currently working as a senior adviser at European Schoolnet, a consortium of 30 European Ministries of Education, Richardson’s tasks include the coordination of the European Commission’s 31-country wide “InSafe” network. This comprises national awareness centres, helplines, and youth participation initiatives.

Dana Haidan, head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability at Vodafone Qatar said, “We’re very happy to be organising this second edition with Janice Richardson on board. Janice has years of experience in this space and we’re confident the knowledge she’ll bring to the dialogue will add a lot of value to any conversation around communications technologies.”

“We’ve launched these sessions to encourage a two-way discussion between parents and other stakeholders through which participants can exchange thoughts, examples and stories, and help build more focus on such a highly-important topic,” Haidan added.

In May 2014, Vodafone Qatar launched AmanTECH, the company’s aid programme for online child and youth safety. Vodafone’s AmanTECH helps to raise parents and children’s awareness about safe Internet use and their digital rights.

AmanTECH will adopt a three-pronged approach with a focus on awareness, education, and technical support.

This entails a number of awareness campaigns, an online source for information, and tips for parents and teachers, magazines, how-to guides and newsletters, Tech Mom sessions, and dedicated Vodafone Tech Experts to impart knowledge and advice for digital parenting.
