The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) had distributed thousands of coupons to shoppers and awarded QR2.5mn worth of prizes to lucky winners during the four-week “Shopping Fun” activity which started on August 17.

The month-long event, which is part of the ongoing Qatar Summer Festival, came to an end after 28 days of fun, festivities and winning.

In a press statement, QTA said the “Shopping Fun” has attracted thousands of local residents from 22 different nationalities and visitors to shopping centres across Qatar.

Participating retailers at six malls took part in the event. Al Khor and Hyatt Plaza malls had the most winners followed by City Centre Doha, The Mall, The Pearl-Qatar and Dar Al Salaam Mall.

“We are pleased to have seen the impressive response to the concept from visitors, nationals and residents alike,” said Mashal Shahbik, Summer Festival project manager at QTA. “Importantly, Shopping Fun was also a win for the participating retailers, who saw increased footfall and spending of nearly QR200mn during the month-long event.”

Thirty winners each week were awarded prizes during the raffle draws. Eight luxury cars and QR740,000 worth of cash was awarded to winning coupons. Hyatt Plaza contributed prizes worth QR90,000 to add to the festivity.

Shoppers get one coupon for a minimum purchase of QR200.

Shahbik thanked the shoppers, retailers and all those who participated in the activity.

“Coinciding with the back to school shopping season and end of summer promotions, visitors had many reasons to take advantage of the Summer Fun, not to mention the fabulous prizes,” he added.

QTA created the Summer Fun initiative as part of the eight-week QSF.

Residents and visitors to Qatar have less than a week to visit other QSF venues which offer fun-filled and exciting activities.
