QP and Total have a research project agreement on carbonates acid stimulation.

Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Total E&P Qatar will host an event today to mark a major milestone as well as to celebrate the achievements of its joint research project on carbonates acid stimulation.

A number of guests from Qatar Foundation and Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) will also be present at the event, which will be held at the QP and Total research centres in QSTP’s Tech 1 building.

The event will be attended by officials, researchers and staff from QP and Total, including Dr Nasser Saqer al-Mohannadi and Dr Philippe Julien, who are leading the Qatar research centres of QP and Total, respectively.

QP and Total signed the research project agreement in May 2012. The idea behind the research project is that injecting acid in Qatar’s carbonates reservoirs dissolves a part of the rocks, improving the permeability of reservoirs and, hence, the productivity of producing wells.
