Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) will implement the Clinical Information System (CIS) project at Al Gharafa health centre from today, announced Dr Juliet Ibrahim, executive director of Clinical Affairs at PHCC.

She explained that this process may cause some delays in the registration and appointment services provided at the health centre. Under the new system, priority will be given to patients who need urgent care while other patients will be scheduled to first available slot.

The CIS project is an initiative to have an integrated personal Electronic Medical Record (EMR) containing all the information and medical history of each patient. It enables all the departments in a health centre to get prior information about a patient coming  for consultation.

The CIS aims to improve the quality of care by reducing adverse incidents such as prescription and medicines administration errors, wrong recording of vital signs, symptoms, and diagnosis, missing important information and repeated unnecessary tests. It also  can enhance patient experience, clinician effectiveness and will make PHCC more efficient by minimising duplication of effort and improving the services, PHCC provides.

The system was already implemented in Al Daayen health centre  last April and it will be put into practice soon in all PHCC health centres. CIS is a joint project between PHCC and Hamad Medical Corporation  under the supervision of the Supreme Council of Health.
