Cabinet ratifies draft law on endowment authority

HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday chaired the cabinet’s regular meeting at the Emiri Diwan.

Following the meeting, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud said the cabinet reviewed topics on the agenda and took several decisions and measures.

The cabinet ratified a draft decree amending some provisions of Law No 22 of 1988 on drawing the borders of Al Shahaniya city. According to the draft, the word “Al Shahaniya” and the two phrases of “Minister of Municipal Affairs” and “Department of Real Estate Registration and Documentation” would be replaced with

“Al Shaihaniya” and the two phrases of “Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning” and “Department of Real Estate Registration” respectively wherever they are mentioned in Law No 22 of 1988.

The cabinet also ratified a draft law amending Law No 8 of 1996 on endowment and agreed to send it to the Advisory Council. The law includes amendments that see the phrase of “Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs” and the word of “Ministry” replace “Qatari Endowment Authority” and “Authority” respectively wherever they are mentioned in the law. The phrase “Authority’s Board” in Article 26 II of the law in question is to be replaced with “Minister.”

In addition, the cabinet endorsed the proposal of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage to reshuffle the board of trustees of the state’s appreciation and encouragement awards.

The cabinet agreed to the application of provisions of Law No 24 of 2002 on the retirement and pensions of Qatari employees of Qatar Foundation for Social Action (QFSA).

It also endorsed the proposal of the Ministry of Transport to hold talks on air transport with Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

The cabinet also ratified a set of agreements including an air services with Congo and Uruguay, and a co-operation agreement in higher education and scientific and technical research between Qatar’s Supreme Education Council and Comoros’ Ministry of National Education, Research, Culture, Arts, Youth and Sports.

The cabinet reviewed some issues and took the appropriate measures. It went through a draft law on the issuance of law (regulation) on animal welfare in GCC states. It also reviewed a draft law on issuing a law (regulation) on the practice of veterinary medical professions in GCC states and a draft law on the issuance of a law (regulation) on veterinary products in GCC states.

 

Aspetar gets CAP
accreditation

 

Aspetar has received accreditation for its laboratory from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This is the second such accreditation in Qatar. The voluntary accreditation programme was created with the primary objective of improving the quality of clinical laboratory services. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the Aspetar 4th Annual United in Quality and Patient Safety Week, which concluded yesterday. Aspetar has become part of an important group of internationally recognised laboratories that have met the highest standards of excellence in quality laboratory practices. “Receiving CAP accreditation reaffirms our commitment to delivering accurate and reliable testing results to our clients and is a reflective of our focus on being centre of excellence,” said Ibrahim Aldarwish, Aspetar’s chief operating officer. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examined in detail the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years.

Minister heads Qatar’s delegation to UN meet

 

HE the Minister of Development Planning and Statistics Dr Saleh Mohamed Salem al-Nabit is leading Qatar’s delegation to the 28th Ministerial Meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

The event is being held in the Tunisian capital until today (September 18), under the banner of “Social Justice in the Policies of Arab States”.

The 28th session of ESCWA coincides with the commemoration of the commission’s 40th anniversary. To mark this occasion, ESCWA will show a documentary to shed light on its vision for future development in the Arab region.

The session comprises four roundtable discussions, led by prominent regional and international intellectuals, to tackle the following issues: the new development approach beyond 2015, economic policies supportive of social justice, inter-generational justice and access to natural resources, and social justice-monitoring and measurement.
