Aspetar is hosting its fourth annual International Quality and Patient Safety Week until today.

The initiative brings together healthcare professionals from around the world to take part in a series of educational sessions, including interactive workshops, symposia and lectures.

The three-day event is being held in line with Aspetar’s commitment to furthering excellence within the workplace and its position as an international leader in sports medicine, according to a statement.

A number of subjects are being discussed at the conference, including “Radiation/MRI safety”, “Patient safety in vaccines” and “Improving oral health outcomes”.

John Hartley, Quality Management manager at Aspetar, said: “The United in Quality and Patient Safety conference highlights the work of medical professionals’ influence on improved patient care outcomes and healthcare delivery systems in Qatar. This year, we are delighted that a number of international speakers from the UAE, all the way to Canada, are attending as guest speakers to provide global perspectives.”

Alongside these speakers, Aspetar presenters and a selection of medical experts from local organisations are bringing their experience to the event over the three days. Organisations being represented include Hamad Medical Corporation, University of Calgary in Qatar and Qatar Petroleum.

With such a wide range of healthcare professionals coming together for the comprehensive sessions, observers of previous years have predicted that the event will once again serve as a networking platform for participants to foster and deepen relationships, bringing even greater spin-off benefits to the expert gathering.

Dr Khalifa al-Kuwari, director-general of Aspetar, said: “This year’s conference aims to raise awareness of the importance of high-quality medical care and patient safety, and also to further existing sports medical research. Aspetar’s overarching vision is to become a global leader within the industry by 2015 and the impressive array of expertise on hand at the conference is a key instrument helping us achieve our goal.”

Aspetar regularly hosts and attends international conferences that bring together world-class practitioners in the field. Previous highlights include presenting a forum at the London 2012 Olympic Games, hosting an Altitude Training and Team Sports  Conference designed to enhance performance levels in team sport players, and Aspetar’s Current Concepts Series.
