QA Msheireb seeks to ensure that all students who are admitted to the school will thrive in an environment of high academic expectations.

As part of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development’s mission to advance learning and knowledge in Qatar, Qatar Academy Msheireb (QA Msheireb) opened its doors to students this month.

QA Msheireb is the fifth Qatar Academy to open as part of QF’s efforts in bringing first-class education to Qatar in order that young people can develop the attitudes and skills required for a knowledge-based economy.

QF’s other academies include QA Doha, QA Sidra, QA Al Wakra and QA Khor. QA Msheireb offers a dual language programme in English and Arabic based on high standards and benchmarks.

A balanced literacy approach will be fully utilised, with students receiving instruction in Arabic and English for equal amounts of time during the instructional day. Students will also benefit from learning maths and science from a specialist. Islamic Studies, Physical Education, and Library time will also be a part of QA Msheireb’s core programme, with outcomes defined for each grade level.

Director Suad al-Kindi said QA Msheireb “aspires to present a real addition to educational excellence. Faculty, curriculum and teaching strategies have been carefully selected to ensure the growth and development of all our students’ skills within a framework based on balanced literacy in both Arabic and English.

“We also pride ourselves in providing suitable educational support in a welcoming and stimulating environment, in addition to delivering professional development skills to staff members to match the current development in the educational field.”

An orientation event was held last week, ahead of the first day of school, to give parents the opportunity to explore the school, meet teachers and discuss the curriculum. For the 2014/2015 academic year, the school has started with six classes in total; two each in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2. Expansion will continue each academic year until the maximum enrolment is achieved.

The Academy, which is temporarily located in the Bani Hajer (Rawdat Legdeim) area of Doha, is scheduled to move to its state-of-the-art building located in Msheireb Properties in September 2016. Development of the Academy building and Doha’s new Downtown area is underway.

“QA Msheireb seeks to ensure that all students who are admitted to the school will thrive in an environment of high academic expectations, and benefit from a well-rounded education, flourishing socially and behaviourally within the school community,” al-Kindi said.

“QA Msheireb believes parental guidance and involvement is critical to a child’s development, and has a significant impact on a student’s academic and social achievement. The Academy is keen to reach out to parents, ensuring they have the information they need to support and benefit their children. Therefore, the Academy plans to involve parents in activities such as workshops, support groups, and volunteering activities.
