A total of 2,650 students have graduated from the Academic Bridge Programme (ABP) of Qatar Foundation so far, revealed Dr. Bryan K. Lewallen, the new director of ABP during his maiden interaction with the media yesterday.

This is the 14th year of operation for the ABP. More than 80% of the graduates of ABP has been Qatari students.

Dr. Miles Lovelace, ABP consultant and former director of the ABP, introduced Dr Lewallen during the event. In his address, the new director highlighted the features of the programmes offered by the institute.

Dr. Bryan explained “The ABP of Qatar Foundation is the premier English language university foundation programme in Qatar. Under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the ABP is entrusted  with preparing Qatari high school graduates, with strong academic backgrounds, for admission to the programmes at Qatar University that are taught in English as well as to other universities in Qatar and other universities in the United Kingdom and the United States.”

He continued “A special focus of the ABP is to prepare students for admission to the Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s partner universities in the Education City. Last year, 43% of ABP graduates were offered admission to one or more of these distinguished universities and over the past 13 years, almost 90% of ABP graduates have gained admission to universities, both here and around the world.”

The official highlighted “One of the most important aspects of the ABP is the individual attention that each ABP student receives from ABP faculty and staff.  Furthermore, a robotics course is also offered after school to interested students with good computer skills. The ABP also has a robotics club and a robotics team that participates in exhibitions and competitions.”

ABP, this year has about 260 students, an increase of approximately 40 students over last year’s total strength at this time. Almost 80% of those students are Qatari; the other 20% are from 33 different nations.

Cross-registration allows ABP’s most advanced students the opportunity to take certain classes for college credit at one or more of the HBKU partner universities in the Education City. This year, 66 students are currently enrolled in 71 university classes, while attending the ABP.
