Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has received a QR500,000 donation from Al Darwish United Group as a contribution to QRC’s medical and relief efforts in Gaza to help populations affected by the Israeli aggression.

At his office, QRC secretary-general Saleh bin Ali al-Mohannadi welcomed Al Darwish United Group chairman Yousuf bin Jassim al-Darwish, who handed over the donation cheque to the former and listened to a presentation on QRC’s assistance and projects to alleviate the suffering of innocent people in Gaza.

After the meeting, al-Mohannadi expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the initiative by Al Darwish United Group, which “demonstrates its belief in the concept of corporate social responsibility, its active role in supporting charitable and social welfare organisations within and outside Qatar, and its prompt response to the needs of the Palestinian people”.

“We are immensely pleased with this humane gesture from Al Darwish United Group. Personally, I am very happy to meet one of the most prominent figures in the Qatari business arena, Mr al-Darwish, who not only donated but also came to the QRC headquarters to deliver the cheque himself. In turn, we confirm our utmost respect and best wishes for him,” he stressed.

On his part, al-Darwish said: “What our group as well as other Qatari companies and individuals are doing is just a commitment that we fulfil through QRC and other charitable organisations. We thank QRC for allowing us such opportunities to support our distressed brothers in Gaza, asking God to grant them more success and victory.”

The Al Darwish contribution comes in response to an emergency appeal issued by QRC in mid-July to raise $3mn (QR10,950,000) to help 40,000 people - or 6,000 families - affected by the Israeli attacks on Gaza, over six months.

QRC also allocated $2mn through its Disaster Response Fund to provide urgent relief for Gaza, including fuel and medical supplies and requirements for hospitals.

QRC receives donations from any person willing to support relief efforts for the victims of the Israeli aggression on Gaza via the hotline, 66666364, on the QRC premises in Old Salata, through QRC agents at various malls, online at www.qrcs.org.qa or by sending an SMS with ‘Qatar’ to 92766 to donate QR100.
