The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has said cases of suspected cancer received by the health centres are required to be transferred to the specialised outpatient clinic at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) within 48 hours, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

Dr Sheikha Abu Sheikh of the cancer examination section said suspected cancer cases are transferred from the PHCC centres to the office of medical transfers at HMC within one hour. Then, appointments are fixed for primary consultation by a doctor within 48 hours from the time of receiving the referred case, according to the report.

Further, she explained that after the patient is seen in the outpatient clinic at HMC, the final diagnosis is done within 14 days through a number of examinations in order to identify the medication plan, the report states.

The PHCC, in co-operation with the cancer examination section at HMC, aims to conduct speedy and early diagnosis of suspected cases in order to ensure the best treatment and integrated healthcare for patients, she was quoted as saying.
