Violations by service centres

Seven violations have been registered against automobile service centres in the Industrial Area for delays in providing “adequate” after-sales services to clients. The violations were discovered by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce’s officers during inspections. On checking documents and electronic records, the inspectors found some cases of delay in supplying spare parts required for the repair of their customers’ vehicles. Such delays in providing the required service exceeded the permissible grace period under the law. The ministry has urged all consumers to report such violations or any other concerns to its Consumer Protection Department through the toll-free line (8005000), hotlines (44945550, 44945500), SMS (92665) or e-mail ([email protected]).

Strict action against wrong parking

The Traffic Department will take stern action against motorists who obstruct the movement of other cars by parking their vehicles behind them, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported, quoting a senior official. Lt Col Mohamed al-Hajri, director of Media and Traffic Awareness, said cars found parked like that would be towed away and taken to the vehicle seizure centre. The car owner would then have to visit the centre and pay the stipulated fine as well as the cost of transporting the vehicle to the seizure centre, according to the report. Lt Col al-Hajri said the department received a number of complaints from people who were unable to take their cars out of parking areas as some other vehicle had temporarily blocked their path.
