The Taliban supreme leader has lauded the ‘spectacular achievements’ of members of his Political Office in Doha in his Eid felicitation message.

Taliban’s Mullah Mohamed Omar Mujahid, who calls himself ‘Amirul Momineen, Servant of Islam’ again clarified that the Political Office in Qatar operates under his and the high Taliban council’s express command, and credited it with giving the militant movement a strong political face on the world stage.

“Due to the efforts of the Political Office, which performs its task under our instructions, Islamic Emirate has gained a political facade at world’s and internal levels. Many entities that used to oppose us now have come around to accept the Islamic Emirate as a reality,” he said.

Referring to the deal between the Taliban and the US which saw the release of five detainees from Guantanamo Bay on May 31 in exchange for one US soldier, he said that “exchange of the detainees with America as a result of the efforts of the representatives of the Political Office of the Islamic Emirate is a spectacular achievement.”

About the volatile situation in the Middle East, the Taliban chief said that the global powers should let the people of the region decide their own fate and achieve their legitimate aspirations.

“It is not justifiable to blame people’s uprising as terrorism and then rain down bombs on them or make prisons full with them. Such conduct will not break determination of a people.”

He condemned Israel for “brutally martyring, injuring and driving from homes” hundreds of Palestinians. “We call upon the world, particularly on the Islamic world, that their remaining tight-lipped on these brutalities is injustice and harms all. Practical and swift steps should be taken to prevent these gruesome brutalities, so that the security of the region and the world may not aggravate further.”

The top leader, however, did not say a word about the situation in Iraq, where the head of the  IS militant group has proclaimed himself as the Caliph of all Muslims in the world.

Omar once again warned American and European governments against maintaining troops or trying to gain political influence or military bases in Afghanistan in the future.

“Let the Afghans establish an independent Islamic government on the basis of their religious and national aspirations. If you want to deprive them of their right to form a government, it will be not only a tyranny and violation of human norms, but also will result in the same consequences that you have seen in the past thirteen years. You might have realised that the Afghan people, whose history is full of struggles for the cause of Islam and independence, are not willing to accept governments installed by foreign hands.”

He also warned Afghan leaders against signing a security treaty with the ‘invaders’ that he thought would only prolong the war.

He said that the Taliban believed that the war in Afghanistan would come to an end only when all foreign “invaders” pull out of Afghanistan and a “holy Islamic and independent regime” is established there.
