Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is all set to launch the 2014 Eid activities (Eid in Qatar).

The activities will run for seven days, from today - the first day of Eid al-Fitr - until August 3.

The programme of activities organised in co-operation with various partners has been finalised, QTA has said in a statement. All shopping centres in Doha will be ready to welcome visitors to shows and performances throughout the Eid holidays.

QTA representatives will be available at Hamad International Airport and the Abu Samra border crossing to welcome guests arriving in Qatar to spend the Eid holidays. They will distribute maps and event programmes as well as promotional material about various tourist attractions in the country.

In the statement, the authority has said QTA and its partners have worked together to ensure that this year’s Eid activities reflect Qatar’s image, heritage and culture. As part of this effort, various parties have organised their own events, which include folkloric performances, cultural tours, concerts and many other activities that appeal to all ages and interests.

Many shopping centres are participating this year, such as City Center, Landmark, The Mall, Hyatt Plaza, Al Khor Mall and Lagoona. A number of these shows and performances will be held for the first time in Qatar.

Ten major events are lined up for Eid in Qatar 2014. The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage will present traditional Qatari dances and shows to be performed by local and Gulf folk bands, in addition to folkloric performances by expatriate communities in Qatar.

These shows will take place at the Heritage Village (Rumailah) on the Corniche from the first to the fourth day of Eid al-Fitr. The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs will organise tours of Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Dafna from the first to the fifth day of Eid.

The Pearl-Qatar will organise an Eid carnival at The Pearl with shows and performances for children and families at Porto Arabia Parcel from the first to the third day of Eid.

Meanwhile, Aqua Park Qatar will welcome visitors with entertainment shows and cartoon characters for children and families from the first to the fifth day of Eid.

The Qatar Shooting and Archery Association has made preparations for a shooting activity at Lusail Shooting Club on Al Khor Coastal Road from the first to the sixth day of Eid, while the Qatar Air Sports Committee has arranged for paragliding tours on the Sealine beach from the first to the fifth days of Eid.

Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve in Al Kheireb will be open to the general public from the second to the fifth day of Eid.

“We have finalised preparations for the launch of Eid in Qatar 2014 and ensured that there is something for every member of the family,” said Rashed al-Qurese, director of Marketing and Promotion at QTA. “We invite residents of Qatar and visitors from the GCC countries to attend the various exciting and fun activities lined up for this Eid holiday.”

Al-Qurese said the aim of Eid in Qatar is to raise the number of tourists and position Qatar as a tourist destination with deep cultural roots. He pointed out that this year’s activities and programmes will offer several entertainment shows, tours of Qatar’s landmarks and a range of options for families to enjoy during the Eid holidays.
