A group of 25 volunteers from Sidra Medical and Research Centre recently visited patients at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Rumailah Hospital.

Clinical and non-clinical staff from different departments volunteered for the visit. They toured different wards within HMC and Rumailah, particularly those housing elderly patients and young children.

The volunteers met several patients and handed over gifts for Eid. The visit was part of a community engagement programme organised by Sidra’s Community Relations and Development division in partnership with the events team.

“Helping and doing good for the community, sharing gifts and stories is an integral part of the Islamic and Ramadan spirit. With Eid approaching, we wanted to spend time with some of the elderly and young patients at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Rumailah hospital.

The event was also an opportunity to highlight key facets of Qatari culture to some of our new employees, who have just joined Sidra from overseas,” said Eman Nasralla, Community Relations and Development manager, Sidra Medical and Research Centre.

Sidra’s Community Relations and Development division is actively involved in programmes that link Sidra to different communities and institutes in Qatar.

Throughout the year its team conducts public awareness campaigns, participates in school health fairs, investigates community health related issues via qualitative and quantitative research and engages in various other outreach programmes.

The division operates on guidelines that are in line with Sidra’s mission to provide world-class patient care throughout Qatar and providing valuable opportunities for research and learning.

“It was heartening to see how enthusiastic and committed the Sidra volunteers were about the visit. They were all keen to bring a smile and a word of encouragement to the patients we met, many of whom are missing out on being in a family environment, especially during Ramadan. We hope our visit made a small difference and that we were able to bring some cheer to the patients. We would also like to thank the clinical and administrative staff at Hamad Medical Corporation for giving us this opportunity,’ concluded Nasralla.
