Qatar Charity (QC) has allocated QR20mn for the reconstruction of demolished homes in the Gaza Strip, as well as distribution of food and medicine, after the renewed Israeli aggression that started last week.

The increased conflict has worsened an already precarious humanitarian situation.

QC chief executive Yousef bin Ahmed al-Kuwari has praised the response of Qatar residents and citizens, while noting that the magnitude of the disaster requires further support.

He said that the QR20mn will be used for the reconstruction of civilian homes that have been either partly or totally destroyed as well as urgent supplies of food, medicine and other items.

Al-Kuwari said responding to the current crisis in Gaza is a humanitarian and brotherly duty.

According to statistics from the Euro-Mid Observer for Human Rights, the number of homes that have been demolished in the Gaza Strip up to July 11 stood at 570, including 120 homes that were completely destroyed.

QC began providing the first batch of emergency relief at the end of last week, distributing food parcels to 200 families whose homes were destroyed.

The aid was distributed via QC’s Gaza Strip office and the food parcels included canned beans and chickpeas, cheese, meat, tuna, dates, olive oil, halva, sugar, and tea.

In a press statement, Ebrahim Zainal, the QC deputy executive director for International Development for Relief, and the director of the Gaza Strip office, said: “This food aid was distributed to families who have had their homes destroyed.”

“Qatar Charity is now working to identify more of the affected so as to distribute more aid in co-ordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs,” he added.

Zainal pointed out that QC was the first Qatar organisation to distribute aid to the Gaza Strip, thanks to the presence of its field office and staff trained in disaster intervention, preparedness and response, as well as the implementation of a number of large development programmes and projects in Gaza in various fields since the 1990s.

A number of beneficiaries praised the swift response from Qatar Charity and its prominent role in disaster relief.

QC has two offices in Palestine; one in Gaza and one in Ramallah, allowing them to quickly respond in emergency relief in addition to the implementation of programmes and projects related to reconstruction and development.
