A large number of people, particularly children, have participated in Garangao celebrations held across the country.

The QFC Authority has marked the holy month of Ramadan with an invitation to the local business community and other dignitaries to join them in a Garangao-inspired Suhoor on Thursday.

The QFC Authority used the occasion to thank QFC firms and the wider business community for the support and participation, which has resulted in a highly successful year for QFC.

In the spirit of Ramadan, the QFC Authority also appealed to the 500-plus guests to generously support Qatar Charity and collection boxes were placed around the hall to enable guests to contribute. The QFC Authority has committed to matching every riyal raised, thus doubling the total amount.

Garangao was chosen as a theme of the evening due to the timing of the Suhoor near the halfway point of Ramadan and because of the values of community, family and heritage that it embodies.

The guests were entertained with live music and enjoyed a short film in which QFC Authority employees described the significance of Ramadan. In the spirit of Garangao, guests received traditional cloth bags containing small gifts, which were distributed as the Garangao song was played.

Yousef Mohamed al-Jaida, deputy CEO of the QFC Authority, said: “I want to thank everyone not only for joining us tonight in celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, but also for being with us throughout the year as we work together to build success in Qatar.”

Yousef Fakhroo, director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the QFC Authority, said: “We take our corporate and social responsibilities seriously and recognise we all have a duty to contribute to the country we live in, Qatar. This carries a special meaning during Ramadan, a time for reflection, respect and sacrifice.”

Nakilat has held its third annual celebration for Garangao.

Nakilat’s Qatari employees and their families shared their culture and heritage with the expatriate employees and their children who became more acquainted with the authentic tradition of Garangao night.

Nakilat considers Garangao to be a great opportunity to share Qatar’s heritage with international staff and to bring employees and their families together for a cultural celebration. The company looks forward to many more such events.
