The Qatar CSR Report can be downloaded in both English and Arabic.

 

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) intends to launch a Qatari Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) index that takes into account similar international experiments based on relevant UN standards, a new report reveals.

According to the Qatar CSR Report 2013, the ministry also seeks to form a CSR network that covers Qatari companies in general and companies registered in the Qatari stock exchange in particular, in order to promote the exchange of ideas and help these companies meet CSR standards.

The Qatar CSR network launched the Qatar CSR Report 2013 in partnership with Qatar University and participation of the MEC.

The Commerce Ministry’s introduction in the report stated that the Ministry has formed a team to suggest CSR standards for Qatari companies. The team includes a number of bodies and ministries, including the Ministries of Environment, Labour and Social Affairs; the Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Qatar Exchange; the National Committee for Human Rights; and the Audit Bureau.

The Ministry urges companies and businesses to determine the dimensions of their voluntary CSR based on their work environment. It also encourages companies to direct their efforts toward sustainable development.

The Ministry also called for the formation of a local association that includes civil society and companies in order to address the obstacles; and also suggested viable solutions to overcome them.

Moreover, the Ministry also believed in the importance of governmental support of CSR initiatives through encouraging and facilitating corporate actions; implementing the resulting developmental projects; engaging small and medium enterprises in CSR; and integrating the concept of social responsibility into education in order to make future generations aware of CSR.

Further, the MEC intends to consolidate the concept of CSR and create strategies to fulfil the Qatar’s National Vision 2030 by spreading the concept among individuals and companies through training courses, workshops and media.

The Qatar CSR report titled ‘The Initiative’ has contributions from Qatari VIP figures, professors and professionals in the field.

The report is available in both Arabic and English.

Following the State’s adoption of Qatari principles and standards, the report said that appropriate steps would be taken to maximise the benefits of the desired goals and to guarantee sustainable development in the future.

The report reflected the increasing importance of sustainable development, and was an indicator of the economic and social growth in Qatar.Qatar CSR network is the first social-responsibility web portal in Qatar.
