Doha Film Institute (DFI) and Education Above All will join forces to celebrate Garangao on July 12 at Katara with a special film screening and a range of fun activities for children.

The traditional children’s festival will be celebrated with a free screening of Pascal Plisson’s documentary ‘On the Way to School’ at 10pm in Katara Drama Theatre.

It is a  touching and inspiring film that follows children from Argentina, India, Kenya and Morocco and the heroic lengths they go to in order to get to school.

From 8pm, there will be a host of fun and exciting activities for children taking place at Katara Building 12, including face-painting, traditional henna art, giveaways and a special green screen movie experience.

DFI’s director of Ajyal Youth Film Festival and Programmes, Fatma al-Remaihi, said: “We are delighted to once again partner with Education Above All to highlight the important work their organisation is doing to improve the lives of children all over the world. Cinema can open a window to the lives of others and as we come together to celebrate Garangao; we hope that this screening will both entertain and enlighten our community on this special day.”

Deputy CEO of Education Above All Fahad al-Sulaiti said, “In partnership with DFI to celebrate the forthcoming Garangao, we view the opportunity to screen ‘On the Way to School’ befitting, as the film aligns both our organisations through its storyline.

“In hosting such an event and in actively engaging children from our community, we believe we will foster and encourage their future participation in our Youth Advocacy Programme to raise awareness on the issue of out-of-school children globally.”
