The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has launched several technical and awareness programmes to increase energy efficiency and reduce per capita consumption of electricity and water during the month of Ramadan.

According to a corporation statement, the campaign comes within the activities of the department of conservation and energy covering technical activities, including energy review for buildings at different sectors. It is done with the intention of familiarising people on such a vital issue as consumption of water and electricity during the holy month.

It is carried out in co-operation with “Tarsheed” campaign partners, including Ezdan Real Estate Group and Supreme Committee for Delivery.

The Kahramaa, through “Tarsheed”, has found out that leakage represents 14% of the use of water while thermal insulation saves nearly 40% of power at buildings.

As for community awareness, the corporation has launched a comprehensive campaign to reach all society classes everywhere. Awareness stickers in different languages were posted in mosques to promote electricity and water conservation.

The importance of “Tarsheed” is repeatedly stressed in religious sermons in co-ordination with the Ministry of Awqaf.

The campaign targets people at such locations as malls and through such important roads as the one along Corniche.

For the second successive year, Kahramaa has launched “Tarsheed” Ramadan contest to highlight such issues as misuse of electricity and water and how to avoid them.

The contest provides daily information targeting all sections of the people. It is broadcast on Qatar TV more than four times (mainly between 6.30 – 6.45 pm) and via Kahramaa YouTube and social networks, and smartphones.
