Aspire Zone’s Ramadan Sport Festival continued on Thursday evening as four different competitions took place across the premises.

The participating teams impressed spectators with a series of high scores in men’s basketball, men’s football, women’s handball and junior boys’ football.

The first round of men’s football matches was marked by a series of high scores. Joel’s Friends beat Nojoom Alsamba 5-1, while Almoheeb and Makkin drew 2-2. Kafoud scored two goals against Argentine, who were unable to score. Finally, Azghawa defeated The Predators 5-1.

The first round of football games will continue until July 8. The quarter-finals start on July 9.

In the first junior boys’ football match of day two, Simba beat Madrid 3-2. The audience was also impressed during the second game as Al Helal scored nine goals against Alnassar, who had two goals. PSG had a landslide victory against Touch, beating them 6-0. The last match of the evening was played between The Crusaders and Al Arabi, which the latter won 6-2.

Meanwhile, in men’s basketball, the first match of the evening left the audience on the edge of their seats as Philippines scraped through to the next round by one point, beating the Falcons 21-20. The next match saw Pinoy Xpats defeat Oryx 38-33.

The biggest “surprise” of the evening came from Home Boys, who managed to successfully play catch up to J Gwim, finishing with a score of 56 to 36. Finally, Gallops beat veteran team Al Shaqab 16-11.

The basketball competition will continue until tomorrow (July 6), when teams will go face-to-face in the finals in a bid to be crowned the Aspire Ramadan Sport Festival champions.

The atmosphere at the Ladies Sports Club was electric as the women’s handball teams fought hard in a series of games, leaving the spectators highly impressed.

Mushaireb were able to compensate for their previous loss against Al Jasra on Wednesday evening by defeating Al Daayen 28-16. This is the second loss for Al Daayen, who also lost their first game against Al Bedaa on Wednesday.

Qatari schoolgirl Samira al-Abdullah from Al Daayen said: “I’ve been playing handball for the past three years and I really enjoy the game. My sister is also participating in the Ramadan Sport Festival with another team. We are both enjoying the experience as we get to compete against each other in friendly games. I really hope my team wins, though.”
