Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilisations has organised the first meeting of the co-ordinators of the plan of the State of Qatar for the Alliance of Civilisations.
The meeting was attended by representatives of 14 governmental and non-governmental organisations concerned with the implementation of the plan.
Vice-president of the Committee for the Alliance of Civilisations Dr Hassan bin Ibrahim al-Mohannadi gave a presentation in which he referred to the emergence of the Alliance of Civilisations as a system within the framework of the United Nations and the goals it seeks to achieve in light of the prevailing tensions in the world, and explained the objectives of the Alliance in education, youth, immigration and media sectors.
He also referred to Qatar’s participation in the five previous coalition forums from Madrid to Vienna, as well as the position occupied by the State in the Alliance of Civilisations.
He mentioned the fact that HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser was chosen a member of the High Level Group for the Alliance, which includes 20 global figures of political and religious leaders and leaders of international organisations and bodies, and added that Nassir Abdulaziz al-Nasser also assumed the post of UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilisations.
Dr Hassan bin Ibrahim al-Mohannadi referred to Qatar’s organisation of the 3rd Forum of the Alliance of Civilisations which was attended by more than 2,500 figures from more than 130 states.
In this regard, the Council of Ministers issued decision No (8) of 2010 to establish the National Committee for the Alliance of Civilisations which works to strengthen the role of the State of Qatar in highlighting the contribution of the Islamic civilisation along with other civilisations in human development and its role in promoting dialogue and resolving conflicts and disputes.
The vice-president of the National Committee for Alliance of Civilisations pointed to the role played by the committee in preparing the first plan of the State of Qatar of the Alliance of Civilisations which was presented at the 3rd Forum held in Istanbul in 2009.
