Qatar Charity has launched a new TV programme on Al Rayyan channel in the hope of raising QR150,000 in donations for the Yemeni people in Socotra Island.

The programme will be aired on the first day of Ramadan and involves a variety of young Qatari taking part in charitable and entertainment adventures aimed at highlighting the harsh conditions of the inhabitants of the island.

It is produced by Qatar Charity in partnership with Al Rayyan Channel and under the gold sponsorship of Ooredoo (QR2mn) and Barwa Bank (QR1mn).

The announcement about the programme was made at a press conference attended by QC Director of Public Relations, Salem Khjaim Athbi; Director of Public Relations and Social Responsibility for Ooredoo, Fatima Sultan al-Kuwari; General Executive Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the banking sector for Barwa Bank, Khaled Mahdi Ajian Ahbabi; and Al Rayyan representative Sabah Rabia al-Kuwari.

QC’s Athbi explained that the documentary aims to raise funds for 150,000 of the most needy people in Socotra, which is a Yemeni archipelago composed of four islands in the Indian Ocean off the coast of the Horn of Africa; it has been classified as a World Heritage Site since 2008.

Socotra is characterised by its unique and vital ecological importance, but the population suffers from a severe shortage of basic necessities of life such as education, health and housing.

The programme involves 12 young Qatari celebrities from the fields of da’wah, media, sport, nasheed and poetry carrying out charitable and entertainment adventures filmed in Socotra in order to reveal the difficult circumstances experienced by the population there.

The one-hour programme will be aired daily at seven in the evening and the 12 young Qataris will raise funds for humanitarian projects via three teams.

Through the One Heart programme QC hopes to finance around 100 projects covering the multiple needs of the poor inhabitants of Socotra in the areas of social and economic development.
