The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has achieved a new safety milestone this year.

The mega corporation clocked 8.2mn work hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) between Jan 2014 and May 2014.

The LTI is defined as an occurrence that resulted in a fatality, permanent disability or time lost from work of one day/shift or more.

This figure includes Kahramaa and its contractors. The total Kahramaa’s work hours without LTI for the period was 2.7mn work hours and total work hours without LTI from the contractors for the period was 5.5mn work hours.

The achievement is a reflection of Kahramaa’s commitment to ensuring that safety remains a core value in all its operations and activities.

Officials say it is the policy of Kahramaa to ensure health and safety of all their employees and contractors. The organisation also cares for the conservation of the environment, in all of its areas of its operations.

Kahramaa is a state-owned corporation funded fully by the State of Qatar. It is the sole transmission and distribution system owner and operator for the electricity and water sector in Qatar. Kahramaa was established in July 2000 by Law no. 10 to regulate and maintain the supply of electricity and water to customers.
