The Environment Protection Department in the Ministry of Environment (MoE) registered more than 35 environmental violations in May, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The violations have been  presented to the Environment Prosecution for legal procedures against the violators, the report states.

The violations included camel grazing in the open desert, transportation of dangerous materials without a licence from the competent authorities, dumping waste in undesignated areas, unauthorised discharge of wastewater etc, according to the report.

The MoE has said its inspectors monitor all farms to ensure compliance with the stipulations and observance of environment conservation methods. The ministry has urged citizens and residents to report any violations at the number 998, it adds.

 

Second batch of Qatari men asked to enlist for national military service

Qatar Armed Forces has called for the second batch of Qatari males for the national military service, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported. The participants are required to go to the National Service Authority in Al Waab district within 15 days in order to complete the procedures, the report adds.

 

Scorpions  spotted in Gharafa

Scorpions have been spotted in a neighbourhood in Al Gharafa, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported.

A citizen, who lives on Umm Samra Street in Al Gharafa, said the scorpions started appearing at the onset of summer and their numbers increased alarmingly, the report states.

He said the scorpions were proliferating on an empty plot of land, which did not have any boundary walls around it and where waste and construction debris had been dumped. Some scorpions had started moving into houses located near the plot, he added.

Further, the citizen said some of the affected neighbours had also seen snakes in the area, the report adds.

Advisory Council holds meeting

The Advisory Council yesterday discussed the report of the services and public utilities committee on a draft law exempting  the activities of railway (Rail) construction project from the application of the provisions of Law No 4 of 1985 concerning the buildings’ organisation.  It also discussed a draft law on regulation of charities.

 

More Qatari female nurses to be recruited

There is a plan to increase the proportion of Qatari female nurses to 20% of the total number of female nurses in the State, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported, quoting a senior official.

Dr Badriya al-Lingawi, assistant executive director of nursing at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), said the number of Qatari female nurses was increasing due to greater awareness about the profession and the desire of Qatari families to give their daughters the opportunity to engage in this important job, according to the report.

Dr al-Lingawi said a campaign would be conducted to encourage female school students to study nursing. She also urged young Qatari males to engage in this profession, the report adds.

Further, she said the HMC graduated the first batch of 30 Qatari nurses, who were deployed in Hamad hospital, PH CC, QP and SCH.
