With the mercury soaring to unexpected highs in May, all Indian school officials in the country are consulting each other, to shorten the schooling hours as quickly as possible.

All these schools have already stopped outdoor activities.

Speaking to Gulf Times, Asna Nafees, convener of CBSE Schools, Qatar Chapter and the principal of DPS MIS School said that she was in consultation with the principals of other Indian schools, to take a collective decision.

“We are talking to each other and we will take a decision in a few days. The temperature has unexpectedly shot up so high and we do not know if it will come down. There is a strong possibility that it might go higher. The only hurdle is that we get only around 180 working days in an academic year and we are already in a tight schedule. Shortening the working hours will affect the schedule of all the schools.”

MES Indian School Principal A P Sasidharan said the school has already stopped all outdoor activities. “I have already consulted with other principals on reducing the school hours. We may reach  a consensus very soon. As our youth festival is going on, we have suspended classes for students  and we will resume classes on Sunday.”

Ideal Indian School Principal Syed Shaukat Ali said the issue was under consideration.

“The only problem is the completion of the syllabus. Even if we reduce the timing, we have to start early and work up to 12.30pm, so as to complete the syllabus. Then, right from second week of June, we are starting the examinations which will be completed by 11am
everyday.”
