Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) and Autodesk has offered platinum sponsorship to the third edition of the information and communication technology conference Qitcom 2014, opening today at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

Saad al-Muhannadi, chief executive officer, Qatar Rail, said developing specific and appropriate technology for the major projects related to infrastructure will ensure that resources are used efficiently and enhance the effectiveness of these projects according to Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly Qatar Rail projects through smart applications and smarter environmental systems.

Al-Muhannadi said Qatar Rail’s support to Qitcom shows its commitment to the government’s efforts to build a robust knowledge-based economy in line with the national vision.

The company is fast embracing latest technologies for projects such as Doha Metro, Lusail Light Rail Transit, and Long Distance Passenger and Freight Rail, all poised to become the torchbearers in the country’s economic development.

Al- Muhannadi said ICT forms the nucleus of Qatar Rail’s time-critical operations and is underpinned by the strategic plan to optimise resources, improve efficiency, and enhance safety for an “excellent” sustainable mode of transport.

He said the sponsorship for the event is a meeting point of global thoughts and local applications, emphasising that this is an opportunity to learn and catch up with the fast changing technologies as well as to team up with potential service providers.

Louay Dahmash, head, Middle East, Autodesk, said: “We are living in a networked world hence IT solutions have a special role to play in shaping the societies at large. Qatar is a priority market for us and we have already won the confidence with Qatar Rail adopting our BIM for the country’s modern integrated railway network.”

Autodesk, provider of consultations services and Building Information Models (BIM) for Qatar Rail projects, has been supporting Qatar Rail on the implementation of BIM technologies and practices to help decrease the overall time and costs of projects by minimising rework and miscommunication, providing more actionable insight into projects, and helping accelerate decision-making earlier into the project lifecycle.

With the theme “Innovating Today for the Future of Qatar,” Qitcom 2014 provides an ideal opportunity for Qatar Rail to enhance its brand visibility and showcase its technological prowess and future prospects, al-Muhannadi said.
