Expatriate schools have so far received no directives from the Supreme Education Council (SEC) on revising their daily working schedule even though summer has set in.

Officials of four expatriate institutions yesterday said they had not received any directives from the educational regulators on the issue of advancing their daily schedule as was done on a few occasions earlier.

An official at one of the Philippine schools said they had no information so far from any office on the issue. However, he said if the school received any instructions from the local authorities it is bound to follow them.

The Philippine schools across the region have classes during the two months of July and August when most expatriate schools are closed for summer holidays.

Officials at a Pakistan educational institution and Stafford International School, which caters mainly to Sri Lankan expatriate students, also echoed similar views.

An official of Stafford International School said: “So far we have no instructions from the local authorities on advancing their daily timings.” He said the school, which closes for summer vacations by June-end, had received several inquiries from parents.

None of the Indian expatriate schools has received any communication either on time change.

When contacted, a senior official at the Meteorology department said temperatures these days are in the “normal” range and there has been nothing unusual until yesterday. Moreover, it is wholly upto the SEC to decide on the timings at the country’s schools and all decisions to that effect would be made by the educational authorities, he said.
