Qatar has donated $100,000 to the International Crisis Group which was formed to prevent conflicts worldwide.
This came during Qatar’s participation in a function organised by the International Crisis Group in New York to honour US former secretary of state Hillary Clinton for her efforts for peace as well as to greet the new generation works in order to achieve a world free of disasters and war.
The function was attended by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Seif al-Thani.
In recognition of the role played by the Crisis Group, the State of Qatar donated $100,000 in support of the group which was founded in 1995 as an international non-governmental organisation on the initiative of a group of well-known transatlantic figures who despaired at the international community’s failure to anticipate and respond effectively to the tragedies in the early 1990s of Somalia, Rwanda and Bosnia.
What distinguishes Crisis Group from other organisations working on conflict prevention and resolution is a unique combination of field-based analysis, practical policy prescriptions and high-level advocacy.
The Group’s Board of Trustees is chaired by Lord Christopher Patten, former European commissioner for external relations, governor of Hong Kong, and former minister in the British government; and Thomas R Pickering, former US ambassador to the UN, Russia, India, Israel, Jordan, El Salvador and Nigeria and former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
The Crisis Group’s president and CEO is Louise Arbour, former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Chief Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunals for Yugoslavia and for Rwanda.
