Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada has stressed the necessity of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation’s (Kahramaa) transformation from being an objective-oriented entity to a company focusing on the results-based strategies.

He said this while opening a forum on Kahramaa’s long-term strategies to be adopted until the year 2030.

Dr al-Sada said: “Kahramaa’s strategy and the new vision, mission, and objectives were a continuation to the developments witnessed in the electricity and water sectors in the last six decades.”

Reiterating Kahramaa’s commitment to high performance, quality of services, customer-centric approach and sustainability the minister called for upgrading the services delivered to the country’s residents.

The Minister said Kahramaa would continue to deliver results based on its new vision, mission, values and objectives to the fulfilling of the four pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar National Development Strategy (QNDS) as desired by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

As power and water are daily necessities in the lives of everyone, Kahramaa, as a responsible  utilities provider is required to upgrade its services to meet the ever growing needs and requirements of people by delivering impeccable services, Dr al-Sada said.

The corporation should also take into account the the country’s growing requirements so that the people would not have any issues that may arise out of any scarcity in the availability of water and electricity, he said.

While speaking on the importance of conserving water and electricity, the minister also deliberated on the necessity of finding cost-effective solutions in generating drinking water and electricity in coming years as the natural resources are dwindling all over the world owing to their excessive use.

Al-Sada said the corporation’s future strategy is aligned with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

“The QNV 2030 sets out an ambition for the country to achieving a competitive and diversified economy capable of meeting the people’s needs and securing them high living standards.

“Since its inception in the year 2000, Kahramaa has worked effectively and efficiently to develop electricity and water services in Qatar by adopting a series of reforms. The latest was the launch of various electronic services as the first phase of transforming Kahramaa into a smart corporation by 2015”.

Later Kahramaa president Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari said: “The change in the corporation’s strategy is in line with goals and objectives of the QNV 2030 and Qatar National Development Strategy 2011 – 2016, where continuous development is a key component of Kahramaa plans and operations to achieve desirable levels of excellence.”

Al-Kuwari said the corporation has adopted excellence as its key slogan in six areas namely people, assets, operations, commerce, customers and community.

The forum on long-term strategy was held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.

Besides Dr al-Sada and Kahramaa president al-Kuwari, yesterday’s ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Cabinet Affairs HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud and many senior officials of the corporation.
