A group of 67 Qataris who have completed the Qatar Leadership Centre’s (QLC) customised leadership programmes were honoured yesterday at a special ceremony attended by a number of ministers, government officials and other dignitaries.

Two batches of participants have completed the 18-month “Current and Future Leaders Programme” and the 12-month “Executive Leaders Programme” recently. The QLC programmes provide an avenue for Qatari professionals (many at senior management positions) to raise the level of their skills such as strengthening their strategic thinking, negotiation techniques, policy analysis, financial management and team building.

Addressing the participants at the ceremony, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad al-Thani, chairperson of the QLC board of directors, said: “This celebration symbolises an important accomplishment in the leadership development of 67 Qataris who are honoured today for supporting Qatar’s development goals by being part of the national initiative for leadership excellence.”

QLC is an initiative of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani which aims to advance the achievement of national goals. Established by Emiri Decree, it is mandated to help in promoting longterm sustainable development of the country by providing leadership trainings to selected Qataris with proven abilities.

Sheikha Al Mayassa noted that QLC “seeks to be a hub for excellence in leadership development and knowledge generation to support the human, social, economic and environmental pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.”

The ceremony was also attended by HE Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali al-Thani, board member and managing director of QLC.

In press statement, Sheikh Abdulla said they are honoured that HH the Emir had received QLC participants recently, about two weeks before the ceremony.

“This honouring ceremony’s sole purpose is to motivate the participants to harness all the lessons learned from the Centre’s programmes to advance Qatar’s progress and development goals,” he stressed. “We are confident that they will spare no effort to achieve their objectives.”

Many of the participants belong to different sectors and industries including education, government, oil and gas, real estate, healthcare and communications technology.

QLC programmes combine theoretical and practical instruction to enhance the leadership and management skills of male and female Qatari professionals who were selected using a competitive, merit-based process of assessments, panel interviews and evaluation.

Participants also attended the specialised leadership courses taught by world-class academic experts at prominent universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, Duke, Chicago and HEC Paris. They also had the chance to interact with prominent leaders in government and key sectors.

The “Current and Future Leaders Programme” which started in 2011 was designed for participants aged 25 to 35. The following year, the “Executive Leaders Programme” was launched for Qatari professionals aged 36 to 46.

QLC’s new “Government Leaders Programme”, designed for participants aged 25 to 40, focuses on developing leadership, decision-making and policy management skills for public sector professionals. All three programmes are set to conclude in 2015 and the next cycle of QLC programmes will begin.
