A delegation of young Qatar Charity (QC) volunteers has visited the Jordanian capital of Amman to deliver aid to Syrian refugees as part of the second edition of the “Competitors” campaign.

The aid includes shelter, food and projects for productive families and education, worth QR4.5mn.

The money was presented in a special ceremony attended by QC CEO Yousef Ahmed bin al-Kuwari, QC’s local partner Al-Urwa Al-Wothqa Association president Munther al-Zimaili, Sheikh Dr Mohamed Ratib Nabulsi, deputy executive director of the Department for International Development Ebrahim Zainal, QC ambassador Mohamed Saadoun al-Kuwari, several other officials as well as beneficiaries of the project.

A number of new projects will be implemented with the funding, including 200 caravans for the Zaatari camp, rent for houses, distribution of food baskets and school bags and a productive families project.

The volunteers were Saeed Mohamed al-Nabit, Sheikh Khaled Abu Moza, Hadi al-Marri, Ahmed Salem al-Bakri, Mohsen Shahwani, Ali Atiq, Mohamed Hassan Gharib, Captain Ibrahim Khalfan, Salim Hamad Daiya, Nasser Nahar al-Bubair al-Shammari, Rashid Kuwari, Dr Ilham Badr, Shahirah Shahwani, Ismaa al-Kaabi and her son Fadhl, Talal al-Tamimi, Mohamed Ali Jaham Kuwari and Talal al-Kuwari.

While Sheikh Dr Mohamed thanked the QC delegation in his speech, al-Kuwari stressed the importance of relief projects for the Syrian people and thanked all those who contributed to the success of the visit, particularly Qatar’s embassy in Jordan and the Al-Urwa Al-Wothqa Association. Al-Zimaili extended his gratitude to Qatar, its government and people for their support.

The ceremony also saw a recitation by Qatari poet Nasser Nahar al-Bubair al-Shammari and a performance by Syrian vocalist Yahya Hawwa.

The QC delegation also visited a gallery of items made by productive families. Al-Kuwari announced a $20,000 contribution for new income-generating projects for Syrian refugees.

QC recently sent a relief convoy comprising 104 trucks of food in aid of the Syrian people, is running a bakery on the Turkish-Syrian border, participating in the printing of a revised curriculum and providing support for the second conference of the Federation of Lebanese Associations working in the field of relief for the Syrian people. Besides, the Hospital of Hope treats wounded Syrians.
