Year on year, the event highlights sustainable development practices by leading companies in Qatar’s energy and industrial sector, and functions to promote public awareness on protecting the environment within the oil and gas industry.
The event is open to the general public, and places a particular emphasis on Qatar’s youth, with all of Qatar’s school students are invited to attend.
Under the theme “Use of water in the oil and gas industry”, and the slogan “God made from water every living thing”, this year’s fair will focus on water, and the best practices of conserving water that can be followed by residential, industrial, and commercial users, and essentially changing water use habits.
In line with this topic, ExxonMobil Qatar’s stand at the fair highlights the importance of water in our lives, but this year, in addition to the various interactive and educational activities, ExxonMobil Qatar’s participation also includes the launch of a children’s energy book, inaugurated by HE the Minister of Energy and Industry, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada.
The energy book is the result of collaborative efforts between ExxonMobil Qatar and Planet News Business, the publisher of Kel Yom – a children’s newspaper that is distributed to more than 50 independent schools in Doha twice weekly.
A group of researchers, specialist oil and gas journalists, educators, translators, illustrators, designers, and editors are responsible for developing the book. Part of the original research that went into the book’s creation was done in France, and largely adapted and contextualised by Arab journalists and educators.
The book will be distributed to Qatar’s independent schools, at the elementary level, as a supplementary learning tool for elective use in the classroom and beyond. The book will provide elementary independent school students with an overview and background on the world’s energy sources, and their importance.
Al-Sada said: “It is extremely important for Qatar’s young generation to recognise the significance of the responsible use of natural resources. It is our duty to teach them good values as they grow up, including how to save energy and water. With such information, our youth will be prepared for the challenges of the future; and this energy book is an excellent way of getting this message across to them. I congratulate ExxonMobil Qatar on this effort.”
