In addition to participating in the Qatar Petroleum Environment Fair, ORYX GTL continues to strive to implement Qatar National Vision 2030, which has “environmental development” as one of its pillars.

ORYX GTL said it has worked hard to prepare for this important event, as demonstrated by their active participation and support of many events and activities which focuses on caring for the environment. These preparation events began at the beginning of February.

ORYX GTL invited employees and their families to submit proposals and projects about how to make use of the treated water and also to provide suggestions on how to reduce the use of water in homes and to reduce energy waste in order to save resources for future generations.

ORYX GTL was also the official sponsor of the Awsaj Academy Environmental Fair 2014, which was organised by Awsaj Academy to celebrate Qatar Environment Day.

As an initiative to encourage students to participate and pay attention to environmental issues, ORYX GTL honoured the first five winners projects and gave them prizes. ORYX GTL has chosen some student projects which focused on water conservation and these projects are displayed at the fair.

ORYX GTL also co-ordinated with Qatar University in encouraging students to submit projects about the re-use of water used in the cooling processes in plants and how to take advantage of them, such as irrigation projects.

Two projects have been nominated out of the total number of projects and are displayed at the fair.

In addition, ORYX GTL Health, Safety and Environment department have recently organised in collaboration with Qatar Petroleum, a distinctive environmental initiative entitled “Beach Cleaning campaign  to protect the turtles on the northern beach of  Ras Laffan Industrial City”, where more than 50 staff have volunteered to take part in this campaign.

The campaign aims to preserve the most important turtle nesting sites, which account for nearly 30% of the total nests in Qatar and to increase participants’ awareness towards environmental issues by involving them in a practical contribution to protect nature and biodiversity.

ORYX GTL urged public and school students to attend their stand at the QP Environment Fair to look at all projects on display as well as to gain an overall understanding of the latest achievements of the company in the environmental field.

A special mention goes to the ORYX GTL environmental storybook “More Precious Than Gold”, which will be distributed for the first time at the fair. ORYX GTL will also be distributing gifts to reduce the use of plastic and also will offer devices to be placed on the water taps in order to reduce the flow of water and thus reduce water usage.
