Qatar and Kuwait signed an agreement, two memoranda of understanding and an executive programme aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations following the third session of the Kuwaiti-Qatari Joint Higher Committee meeting held at the Kuwaiti foreign ministry headquarters here yesterday.

The third session of the Kuwaiti-Qatari Joint Higher Committee was presided over by HE the Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah and Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah. 

aFollowing the meeting, HE the Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah and Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah witnessed the signing of the accords. 

The two sides signed an agreement between the governments of Qatar and Kuwait for providing facilities to establish diplomatic missions, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Qatari Diplomatic Institute at the foreign ministry and Saud al-Nasser al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute at the Kuwaiti foreign ministry for co-operation in several sectors, an executive programme for co-operation between the two countries in the field of media for the years 2014,2015 and 2016 , and another MoU between Qatar Chamber and Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). The minutes of the Kuwaiti-Qatari joint higher committee for co-operation were also signed. 

Kuwaiti first deputy premier and foreign minister said the current meeting is complementary to what has been achieved during the past two sessions, during which nine agreements, memos of understanding and executive programmes covering the economic, educational, media and scientific areas and diplomatic and consular co-operation were signed.

HE the Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah praised the depth of bilateral relations in all fields under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah.

 During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them in the economy, trade, educational and media sectors. The latest regional and international developments were also discussed.

Meanwhile yesterday, HE al-Attiyah held separate meetings with Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak al-Hamad al-Sabah and Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah at Bayan Palace.

HE al-Attiyah conveyed HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani’s greetings and wishes to Kuwait’s emir and his wishes of progress and prosperity to relations between the two countries.

Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah reciprocated the Emir’s greetings and wishes.

During the meetings, the existing ties between the two countries and means of boosting and developing them on all fronts were reviewed.

Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs hosted a luncheon banquet at the Kuwaiti foreign ministry in honour of HE al-Attiyah and the accompanying delegation.
