Qatargas has announced its support as gold sponsor to the 7th GCC Quality Conference, which will be held under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on April 30 at Sharq Village & Spa Hotel, Doha.

The conference, held under the theme “The Quality and Environmental Challenges”, will seek to address some of the most critical environmental challenges facing the GCC nations.

Qatargas’s support to the conference was announced during a press meet held at the company’s Doha head office. The press conference was attended by Khalifa Ahmed al-Sulaiti, Environmental Affairs manager at Qatargas; Mansour Rashid al-Naimi, Public Relations manager at Qatargas; and Mohamed Saleh al-Kuwari, president of Gulf Development Centre, which is organising the conference.

Speaking to the media, al-Sulaiti said: “Qatargas is delighted to be part of this important event, which is addressing one of the most decisive issues of our time. Our environment has always been of paramount importance to us at Qatargas and it is one of the key focus areas of our corporate social responsibility strategy.”

On his part, al-Naimi said: “Qatargas’s support to this conference stems from its increased focus on quality in all its operations. Quality at Qatargas is managed as part of an integrated management system that is directly linked to the Direction Statement of Qatargas, which provides a clear vision, mission and covenants.”

Meanwhile, al-Kuwari said: “We are thankful to Qatargas for their support to this conference, which will offer a major avenue for industries and businesses to exchange knowledge and share best practices.”

The conference will be attended by decision-makers, academicians, researchers and delegates from government organisations, public utilities, public and private sector companies, construction firms, and medical and
para-medical establishments.

Main topics to be discussed at the conference include importance of quality as an essential step in the way of compliance with local and international environmental standards; reduction of environmental pollution caused by industrial, construction and medical waste; environmental damage resulting from different emission and how to reduce them (carbon tax); highlight the importance of the environmental impact assessment studies to identify environmental challenges and develop solutions; and review of initiatives and innovative solutions to ensure the sustainable development of all elements of the environment.

An exhibition will be held as part of the conference where companies and corporate sponsors will showcase their efforts to reduce carbon footprint. Qatargas will participate in the exhibition with an interactive model showcasing the Jetty Boil-off Gas project, highlighting how Qatargas will reduce flaring at LNG jetties by over 90% during the LNG
ship-loading process.
