The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has organised a workshop entitled “The new growth charts of the World Health Organisation (WHO)” for students of independent schools in Qatar.

Some 250 nurses from independent schools around the country were trained in the use and application of the new growth charts and the early detection of malnutrition among students.

Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, director, (public health department) at SCH, said the workshop was aimed at providing a database and establishing a system to monitor the growth of students across all school stages as well as for the early detection of deficiency in growth that may be related to nutrition.

The detected cases will be referred to Primary Health Care centres for treatment and
follow-up.

He stressed at the opening of the workshop that it was an important initiative to enhance students’ health and attain balanced growth levels (among students) to avoid any potential diseases.
