The One will be hosting its ninth annual blood donation drive on April 21 from 2pm to 7pm.

HMC’s mobile blood donor unit will be parked at the Landmark Mall parking area, which can be accessed from Gates 3 and 6.

Those interested in donating blood may register their details at The One’s reception desk or by e-mailing [email protected] by April 20.

In the past eight years, The One has helped generate over 200 pints of donated blood.

Skill training for special needs students

Qatar University (QU) students with special needs have benefited from a series of training workshops to acquire essential skills and abilities to enter the professional sectors of the labour market.

A total of 40 students were trained on essential life skills and personal tools needed to make an effective contribution to the respective work environments they opt to enter.

The workshops, conducted in Braille, were organised by the Career Qualifying Programme of the Career Services Centre in collaboration with the International Centre for Leadership Development. They form part of the centre’s ongoing commitment to equip students with opportunities to develop and upgrade their skills and capabilities in keeping with the changing needs of the labour market.

Dr Eiman Heji, the head of special needs section at QU, said: “Today, more and more graduates with disabilities are entering the Qatari labour market and bringing skill sets that are much needed. Such workshops develop these skills and equip the students with a strong sense of self-confidence, self-esteem and independence, and ready them to join the world of work.”

The participating students felt that the workshops were “invaluable” to their needs and expectations, with 85% expressing satisfaction in a survey following the workshop.
