Former QP staffer dies in India

A G George, 68, a long-time former Qatar resident, died after a brief illness in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, yesterday.

A former senior staff member of Qatar Petroleum, George was undergoing treatment at the CMC, Vellore. He served QP from 1974 to 2007.

He leaves behind wife, Mary, daughter Jinu and sons, Jerry and Justin.

George’s body will be buried in Ernakulam, Kerala tomorrow.

 

Indian driver dies in porta cabin fire

An Indian expatriate has died in a fire that broke out in a porta cabin at his workplace in Al Tumama area on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Valiyakath Muslimveettil Moidootty, 48, who hailed from Pavaratty in Kerala’s Thrissur district. He had been working as house driver for about 28 years, sources said.

Arrangements are being made to send the body home.

 

 

Qatar attends preparatory meeting for UN conference

Qatar has participated in the African Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 13th United Nations Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice to be held in Doha in 2015 .

Qatar was represented  at the meeting, which was held recently at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, by Dr Ahmed Hassan al-Hammadi, Deputy Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for hosting the Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice , and representatives from the ministries of interior and foreign affairs .

The meeting discussed the topics on the agenda and reviewed a number of issues related to the 13th United Nations Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

 

QOC signs MoU with Georgian counterpart

Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU)  and co-operation agreement in the sports sector with its Georgian counterpart in Doha yesterday.

The MoU aims to achieve excellence in the world of sport at all levels through the exchange of knowledge and management and training expertise. 

The agreement was signed by Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC)  HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, with his Georgian counterpart . 

It covers the exchange of technical and administrative expertise between the sports federations and Olympic committees of  the two countries as well as the exchange of visits and co-ordination of positions in various continental and international forums.
