Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Doha Film Institute (DFI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently for co-operation in spreading awareness about the ongoing National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed).

The MoU, which involves a short film contest to raise awareness of the programme, was signed by Kahramaa president Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari and DFI CEO Abdulaziz al-Khater in the presence of senior functionaries from both organisations.

The MoU aims to promote the benefits of the Tarsheed campaign among residents by involving them in the cause through their visual creativity.

As part of the MoU, DFI is inviting entries for the short film contest under the theme of “saving electricity and water”. Each entry should be of 1-3 minutes’ duration and has to be submitted online at www.dohafilminstitute.com

The last date for submitting entries is April 14.

“The MoU falls within the Tarsheed programme with the aim of disseminating awareness among all sectors. The filmmaking contest is an incentive for youth and filmmakers. Their creative entries should support the aim of Tarsheed,” said al-Kuwari, adding that Kahramaa co-operates with all corporations in order to spread the culture of electricity and water conservation and achieve sustainability of resources.

“We at DFI are keen to support leading local initiatives,” said al-Khater, adding that the MoU gives filmmakers in Qatar an opportunity to change society’s perception of electricity and water conservation.

All the entries should be original and DFI reserves the right to use them through any medium to raise awareness about the programme.
