Qatar Armed Forces yesterday celebrated the start of the first course of the national service programme for University graduates in the presence of HE the Minister of State for Defence Affairs Major General Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah and Qatar Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Pilot Ghanim bin Shaheen al-Ghanim.
In his speech during the ceremony, the Minister of State for Defence Affairs said: “It is a great honour in to open this national project to which our wise leadership, led by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, gave considerable attention because of its paramount importance.”
He said: “We are very pleased at the success in the implementation of the project, which we have been assigned to study seven years ago. We have made endeavours  in order to meet this demand by HH the Emir because it serves the Qatari society and contributes to building the community. We managed to achieve the goal at the beginning of this first session of the national service, and we wish the recruits every success in order to be the nucleus of the future in Qatar.”
Major General  al-Attiyah said that the national service system will greatly serve the Qatari society  because it will be the nucleus for  training young Qataris on a lot of things that are in the interests of the country.
Addressing the gathering during the event, which was held at Al Shamal Camp (Hamad Mechanical Battalion), the commander of the students training centre, Brigadier Mohamed Misfer al-Ayyadi,  explained that the first batch of national service programme includes 500 recruits from university graduates .
Brigadier al-Misfir gave a presentation about the course and its duration and answered the recruits’ questions and inquiries.
