Citizens, car showrooms for halt in number plate price rise

A number of citizens and car showrooms have expressed the hope that the public auction to be shortly organised by the Traffic Department to sell special number plates may temporarily contain the increase of their prices, local daily Arrayah has reported.

They feel that the quantum of the price decrease depends on the number of the plates sold by the department. They mention that it is important to ensure that one person does not obtain more than one number.

They say that there are persons who want to obtain the special numbers for trading and not for personal use. Such trading triggers an increase in the prices of number plates.

“If a three digit special number was worth QR160,000 to QR189,000 before one and a half year, now it is QR1mn,” a source told Arrayah, giving an example for the price increase.

The daily has also been informed that the Traffic Department completed all the procedures for organising the auction through a committee formed for the purpose and is now studying proposals concerning the venue of the auction.
