The Ministry of Interior’s  Criminal Investigation Department (CID)  has arrested a gang involved in production, packing and sale of “sweika”, an illegal product made of chewable tobacco.  Large quantities of sweika were seized during the operations carried out by the department.

Officials said the department had received a tip-off about production and packing of “sweika” at a house in the Old Ghanem area. Suspects were monitored and six people were arrested during a raid on the house from where large quantities of “sweika” were seized. The suspects, all Asians, were taken to the Capital Security Department for  legal procedures. The department urged  residents to report either to the security agencies or the Interior Ministry  in case any information is received on anyone producing and dealing with  harmful products like “sweika”. It can be reported to Operations Room -999 or to CID at 2347444.
