HBKU to host renowned artist Brooker

The Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Centre will host three oil painting workshops with renowned artist Joanne Brooker. These sessions form a unique opportunity for students of HBKU and its partner universities to explore the ancient legends of Gulf mermaids, and their connection and importance to Qatar’s rich cultural history, according to a university communique. The painting workshops will be held at the HBKU Student Centre Art Gallery on April 7 with an introductory session. In addition to exploring the ancient legends of Gulf mermaids, students will also look at the importance of the sea with regard to Qatar’s cultural development.  Brooker will also teach oil painting techniques and assist the participants in completing their own interpretive pieces of art reflective of the workshops’ mermaid theme.
