HE the Minister of Transport Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti met Kenyan Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amina Mohamed in Doha yesterday.

They reviewed means of co-operation and enhancing bilateral ties.

 

FM meets Costa Rican counterpart

HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah yesterday met Costa Rica’s Foreign Minister Enrique Castillo who is now visiting Qatar.

They discussed relations between the two countries and means of bolstering them. A set of other issues of mutual concern was also taken up.

 

Qatar-US defence ties reviewed

HE the Minister of State for Defence Affairs Major General Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah met US Army Central Commanding General Lieutenant General James Terry in Doha yesterday.   They discussed military issues.  The meeting was attended by US Ambassador to Qatar Susan Laila Ziadeh and a number of senior officers of the armed forces.

 

Accommodation for labourers

At its regular bi-weekly session yesterday, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) reviewed the legal mechanism for more effective evacuation of labourers’ accommodation units in family-inhabited residential areas.

However, some CMC members were in favour of more flexibility in enforcing such evacuation so as to curb any potential rise in the rents of workers’ housing units, which would, in turn, reflect on the cost of construction in the country.

They demanded that a permanent and feasible alternative should be devised before going ahead with such evacuation campaigns.

 

Arab Hip Hop  Festival opens  tomorrow

Arab Hip Hop Festival, which  opens in Doha tomorrow, will showcase top rappers, break-dancers, beatboxers, graffiti artists and DJs, organisers said.

The festival for young people is being organised by Qatar-based Youth Enterprise at the Hilton Hotel Doha.

The festival will officially open tomorrow at 10:30am with a press conference, followed by the official opening ceremony. The first day features the first annual Hip Hop Conference in Doha which includes a movie screening, and panel discussion with experts and artists from the Hip Hop industry.

 

QP showcases its projects  at Oman expo

Qatar Petroleum (QP) is showcasing it operations and projects at the ninth Oil and Gas West Asia Exhibition and Conference (OGWA 2014) at Muscat’s Oman International Exhibition Centre.

The conference which started on March 31 concludes today. More than 300 oil and gas companies from 30 countries are participating in OGWA 2014 organised by Omanexpo.

After opening the exhibition,  Oman’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Dr Ali bin Masoud al-Sunaidi, visited the QP pavilion where he  was briefed on the company’s operations and future projects.

QP is a major exhibitor at OGWA 2014 together with its subsidiary Qatar Petroleum Company (Qapco).

 

Real estate transactions

Transactions between March 23 and 27 for the real estate sales contracts registered at the Ministry of Justice are worth QR865,996,197, the real estate registration department at the Ministry said in its weekly report.

The list of properties that were traded by sale includes open plots of land, two floor villas, annexe, houses, warehouses, residential compounds and buildings, which are located in the municipalities of Umm Salal, Al Khor, Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Shamal, Al Daayen and Al Wakrah.

 

‘Seditious’ tweets

Three Saudi Arabian men have been charged over comments they made on Twitter, the first such cases since a decree imposed long jail terms for supporting extremist groups, a local newspaper reported yesterday.
