Vodafone Qatar has launched “Falla” a new prepaid and postpaid plan appealing to the youth, offering more minutes of calls, “endless music” through mobile application and more Internet data per month.

“Falla” is a Qatari expression which means “enjoying the moment.” Vodafone-Qatar CEO Kyle Whitehill said yesterday that younger people use more minutes than the average customer usage around the world which is 400 minutes per month.

“Falla” gives prepaid subscribers 250 minutes for calls to any Vodafone customer in the country, 100MB of data and another 250MB for streaming and downloads on Anghami+ for only QR6 per week.

Postpaid subscribers get 1,000 minutes plus 200-minute calls to local numbers and 1GB data. It also comes with another 1GB for streaming and downloads on Anghami, the leading music service in the Gulf which offers one of the largest catalogue of regional and international music.

As many as 90% of the about 1.3mn Vodafone customers in Qatar are prepaid subscribers, Whitehill said.

He expects that about 50% of their existing customers will avail the new plan while another 50% will come from new customers, possibly doubling its sales. He also noted that Qatar has about 0.5mn youths aged between 13-25 years of age and nearly 25% of them are students.

Part of Vodafone’s “Falla” include various activities and entertainment for the youth such as the free 24-hour video gaming at The Gaming Lounge in Al Sadd area every Wednesday from midday to midnight. Some 150 people can play at the lounge.

It will also stage monthly fashion events, tapping regional and international stylists where “Falla” subscribers can get a chance to join exclusive workshops.

Vodafone will also set up study zones with free WiFi access at Qatar University where students can get free coffee and cupcakes.

Asked about plans to possibly offer lower “Falla” rates in the future, Whitehill said: “We want to make sure to be looking that we offer best value just like the 1,000-minute offer”.

He also noted that the number of Vodafone postpaid customers grew five times bigger than the previous plan with the launching of “Red”.

“I think Qatar is a very attractive buyer of VIP service, we doubled in sales and we’ve multiplied by five,” he said.

About Vodafone’s 4G trials, the CEO announced that it was doing well and the service will become faster in the next  few weeks.
