More than 70,000 people visited the fourth Qatar International Motor Show, held from February 21 to 25 at Qatar National Convention Centre, the organisers announced yesterday.

The event, organised by the Qatar Tourism Authority, q.media events and Fira Barcelona, was under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.

Inaugurated by the Transport Minister HE Jassim bin Seif Ahmad al-Sulaiti, the event proved to be one of the leading automotive shows regionally and worldwide, the organisers stated.

Along with a high number of visitors this year, it is also reported that many fans registered for online passes prior to opening. The participants represented over 100 countries.

The show featured over 40 notable and international car and motorcycle brands that showcased their latest luxury, sport, mid-size and SUV segments. They included Volkswagen, Porsche, Bentley, Ford, Renault, Lamborghini, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Infiniti, Toyota, Lexus, Chevrolet, Cadillac, BMW, Mini, Maserati, Jeep,
Chryslar, and Dodge.

The five-day event had a wide range of interesting activities that appealed to both consumers and trade professionals. The World of Speed Exhibit featured talks by Dakar Rally drivers such as Marc Coma and Josep Luis Merlos from Spain.

Mexico’s Jo Ramirez, Spain’s Joan Villadelprat, India’s Karun Chandhok, Japan’s Kamui Kobayashi, Germany’s Herman Tilke, and the British TV star Stig were among the celebrity participants.

A photo exhibition which featured the works of F1 World championship photographer Miquel Liso from Spain, performances by a Red Bull stunt team comprising Séan Garnier, Niki Gomez, Senad Grosic, Petr Kraus and Mansour al-Safran were among the attractions.
